The Ghanaian people comprise ethnic elements, diverse in their
personality, historical and cultural backgrounds, welded effectively
into a unitary state. Currently, the population is estimated at
about 14 million, with an average annual growth rate of 2.7 percent.
The predominantly vivacious spirit of the people is clearly manifested
in some of the ethnic groups in their music and dance, as well as
the proverbial Ghanaian hospitability radiating in the welcoming
smiles on the faces of the people.
Weather
In tropical Ghana, temperatures average a pleasant 21 deg.C (70-90
deg.F). The rainy season is from June to July and again from September
to October. The rain, which cools and freshens the air, does not
deter tourists.
Languages
As a former British colony, English is the official language and
is widely spoken throughout Ghana. In addition to English, over
30 other languages are spoken.
Currency
The "cedi" is the unit of currency in Ghana. Commercial
foreign exchange bureaus are widely available.
